People haven’t rushed to imitate it on the streets, but that remains the last preview season’s standout accessory. Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, at the Cruise 2013/14 show held in Singapore recently, brought out another gem — the mono earring. A miniature symbol of fashion’s love for asymmetry, this might be a harbinger of more. Turns out, it ain’t that new. According to a Reuters report, the “Jewellery Through the Times” event at Malta Fashion Week in Valleta last month showcased replicas of jewellery worn in Neolithic Malta some 5600 ago, the original pieces housed at the National Museum of Archaeology. What stood out as a defiant ally of the side braid on the side of the model’s red head? A mono earring that was longer.
