Watches today might not be used for their intended purpose – almost everyone looks to their mobile phone to tell time – but they sure are gaining ground as a fashion statement. From quirky to colourful, there’s something in the market for everyone. The luxury watch makers aren’t far behind with Swiss watch brand Longines launching its latest collection at its Express Avenue boutique in Chennai.

Actor and singer Andrea Jeremiah, who was present at the unveiling of the Elegant collection, says, “My very first luxury watch was from Longines. There is something timeless about their collections, and their tagline, ‘Elegance is an attitude’ is something I, as a young woman can relate to. This is affordable elegance that working women can buy for themselves.”

Teerath Doshi, director, Helvetica Swiss Watch Boutique, says that the collection will be available at seven boutiques across the country, two of which are in Chennai. “Since Longines is known for its elegance, the watches that have been launched have a very simple and classic design with more options in steel, rose gold and diamonds,” he said.

Prices start at Rs. 70,000 and go up to Rs. 2 lakh. The watches are available in three sizes and are fitted with self-winding, mechanical movements. The bracelet is made of fine links in steel or steel with rose gold cap; some versions have diamonds. One can also choose from dark dials in black lacquer or anthracite and light dials in matt white, striped silver or mother of pearl. The hour symbols are either in diamond, applied work or painted Roman numerals. The lighter dials also have black hour and minute hands that provide a pleasing contrast.
