After designing the crystal-embellished outfit for Fergie of Black Eyed Peas for the FIFA World Cup kick-off concert in 2010 and styling about a dozen celebrities from Hollywood and the music world for photo shoots and red carpet dos, the Peacocks court the spotlight once again.
Mumbai-based Falguni and Shane Peacock will design the wedding gown for internationally-known tattoo artist Kat Von D who is to marry music sensation deadmau5 later this year. “We have worked with Kat a number of times. She has worn one of our creations for the Inked magazine cover. She loved our show at the New York Fashion Week recently and instantly asked us to design her gown,” say the design duo.
Deep blue sea
Like many hues melding on the peacock’s plumes, the beautiful colours of the sea will blend in this underwater-themed wedding. “It’s inspired by Kat’s love for H.P. Lovecraft’s short story The Call of Cthulhu , based on a half-man, half-octopus character. So the colours we are working with are teals, blues and deep violet ombre accents. The gown will have a sleek silhouette with a mermaid-like feel,” reveal the designers who will soon travel to Los Angeles to meet Kat with the sketches.
Ever since the Peacocks strutted westwards, their design aesthetic moved from elegant to edgy. “Our philosophy is simple — ‘Life is too short to blend in’. This will be reflected in the wedding gown as well.” Their glam trip began at FIFA World Cup when Fergie’s outfit attracted the eyeballs of Western celebrities. “International pop icons and film stars loved it. Ever since, we have designed for the likes of Madonna, Katy Perry, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Every time we design for a celebrity, they ask us to create something similar all over again! Jennifer Lopez, for instance, loved what we had made for her that she requested us to create different versions of the same thing.”
Designing for celebrities isn’t easy. It’s a huge challenge given the options that are open to them.
But the FSP label has some steadfast loyalists. “It’s because we think differently and love to experiment. We enjoy complete creative freedom. Our outfits are a representation of our thought process — which is limitless.”
