Designer Gitika Goyal describes her new label, Grass by Gitika Goyal, as a blend of “fusion and fun”. Combining characteristic elements from East and West, the women’s wear collection features a varied array of colours, fabrics and cuts. While her brand, Gitika Goyal, has concept stores in the U.K., Europe and the U.S., she decided to launch the line of clothing as an “attempt to make my designs accessible and affordable for everyone. I also felt that the Indian market was ready for such ventures,” adds Gitika. A launch has been scheduled for August 1 at Casa Orchard. Using fabrics such as khadi and cotton among others, the designer has put together a wide range of apparel. From tops, kaftans and dresses to pants and shorts, the clothes exude style and comfort. Inspired by the irregularities and chaotic nature of India, Gitika has tried to incorporate these traits in the form of designs. Each item of clothing is named after particular cities. “The Lucknow dress is a kurta with large pockets, similar to the ones worn by men, particularly in the north,” she explains. With its white, pink and blue design, the Pondicherry top is associated with the lotus flower. Be it the organic prints or the colour palette, everything about Grass is symbolic of India.
With a subtle Bohemian touch to it, the clothes are casual yet trendy. The Indo-Western fusion adds to the X-factor of the collection. “The kaftans can look Indian or Western, depending on how you choose to wear it,” explains Gitika. Similarly, long tunics like the Mandvi tops can be worn as dresses or paired with pants to get the desired look. Being someone who enjoys the comfort of loose and easy-fitting garments, the Pathankot pants are Gitika’s personal favourite.
Her brand, Gitika Goyal, includes clothing and home furnishings, prominently featuring Chikankari works. Originally from Uttar Pradesh and currently based in Bengaluru, she is a graduate from NIFT, Delhi.
The clothes are priced between Rs. 699 and Rs. 1,899. The label will be launched on August 1 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Unit D, Casa Orchard, near the Sadashiv nagar Post Office. Call 9448474941 for details.
