From cropped tops to jumpsuits, midis and interesting dhotis, graduating students of NIFT experiment with a variety of silhouettes at Knitmoda & Fashionova 2014

Inspiration can be found in the smallest of things – birds, nature and architecture, a city, tribe, folklore or even music. And that is exactly what the students of NIFT, Hyderabad did. Their graduation fashion show Knitmoda & Fashionova 2014 was a display of all that they drew creative inspiration from.

HICC, where the fashion show was held on Thursday evening, was all abuzz with excitement as NIFT students and parents gathered to watch the graduating students showcase their designs. The event was kick-started by chief guest Pinky Reddy following which students of the Knitwear Design department showcased their creations. The themes ranged from splendour of the dilapidated, future matrimony to folk designs. The futuristic matrimony for instance boasted of offbeat bridal designs that ranged from a flowing skirt teamed with a crop top in white and silver to a fitted pant with a long jacket in the same colour scheme.

Following Knitmoda, students of the Fashion Design department presented Fashionova that had more flowy fabrics and silhouettes.

The line inspired by folk artistes stood out for its clever use of colours and mirror work and embroidery. The outfits were perfectly complimented by chunky ear and neck pieces. Most of the lines used contemporary silhouettes and comprised cropped tops, shift dresses, fitted pants and midi skirts and dresses. Cropped tops paired with various styles of jackets and boleros in different fabrics seemed to be a common feature in most of the lines.

One of the highlights of the Knitmoda section was a collection called ‘Holiday Class’ that had little children walk the ramp waving and excitedly blowing kisses to the audience. Their ramp walk drew more hoots and cheers than any of the other collections did.
