Brimming with optimism over the reach of Indian fashion increasing in B-towns and mofussils, ace designer Tarun Tahiliani, among the leading 25 designers who presented two collections each at the grand finale of the Amazon India Fashion Week, is confident that the interest of online shoppers in fashion weeks would grow and translate into business.

With Amazon India sponsoring the mega event, says Tahiliani, speaking over the phone, “The interest of the online shoppers would definitely increase. It is important that the presence of designers is seen not only in cities but in small towns. We need to have thousands of stores catering to every buyer living in the country. We need to reach out to all those who do not have access to high end fashion.”

He says people hailing from small towns are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the latest updates on the fashion scene in India.

He feels there is a bright future for the designing community as their garments would penetrate into newly constructed malls and markets in virtually every city of the country in the coming years. “At the Amazon, we saw some watered down versions in the sense that designers had catered to online shoppers, but this trend of manufacturing clothes for the middle class would definitely grow in fashion weeks.” Explaining the reason for not presenting an entire collection at this much talked about event, Tahiliani says, “I was reorganising my company and also had to show my collection at the Lakme Fashion Week.”
