We’re in the thick of summer and stylists, fashion bloggers and designers are busy giving advice on how to dress cool and comfy this summer. But it’s also that time of the year when women are sceptical about how to wear their hair, especially the ones who won’t hack their mane for anything in the world!
From gold barrettes and leather ties, to iridescent floral accents and flakes of gold, hair trends for the spring of 2014 is a striking amalgamation of modern robustness and classic femininity. Irrespective of the length of your locks or even the texture or colour, hair accessories are trending this summer.
Nivedha Charles, owner of Pigtails and Ponys that retails handmade hair accessories, says: “You know spring is when the floral prints come out. This time, floral hair wreaths are popular and so are printed head wraps and head chains.”
Anushka Singh, an aspiring model, says: “Hippie floral headbands are quite the rage. Also, if you like appliqué on your clothes, then go for Roman-inspired coin belts, except make sure they have flower blossoms on them. I’m a huge retro freak and since my hair is voluminous, I wear floral barrettes on a regular basis.”
Hair jewellery is the up-and-coming trend; so if you’re into bling, wear ornate headbands or hair ties. The broad black headband is timeless. Make sure you wear a low ponytail when you opt to wear this kind of headband. For a vintage look with a royal touch, opt for gold clips and gold lead flecks. They’ve worked well on the runways. With the ponytail growing in popularity, dreamy iridescent flowers cautiously speckled along the sides, offers a whimsical look, especially for an evening do.
If you’re wondering how to wear your hair with accessories, Nivedha suggests: “A quick messy bun is always a go to on bad hair days and can be teamed up with a bright, colourful bow crocodile clip. Braids are also in this season, especially fish braids and braided buns. Add a pretty chain headband to your braided up-do for extra style points. Fabric head wraps (or a bendy) work really well for all kinds of hair as its versatility lets you wear it in so many different ways, depending on your outfit or hairstyle.”
To pick a hair accessory that best suits you, she says: “Everyone has their own distinct sense of dressing and this applies to hair accessories as well. It’s important to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. At the same time, you’ll never know what really works for you if you haven’t tried it on. So feel free to experiment with your hair this summer whether it’s with your hair length or style or accessory. You might surprise yourself with the results!”
