Anavila Sindhu Misra, a Bombay-based textile designer will be presenting a collection of linen saris under her label Anavila at Basava Ambara from February 3.
The label is known for its work with textiles in their raw form, tailoring them for “everyday exotic” wear. The collection will feature 100 per cent linen saris as well as some cotton-silk saris.
“The linen is simple without too much detailing for a natural, rustic effect,” says Anavila. “I have played with textures in the collection especially in the borders and pallus. The weaving is fine and so comfortable.”
The saris will be available in summery shades of indigo, light pistachio, lemon as well as in pastel shades and come bright colours for festive occasions.
“The sari is the most ancient drape and it fits well onto the Indian body and Indian women still wear the sari. We have tried to contemporise the sari by using new fabrics. You normally see silk or cotton saris, the idea of using linens in the sari is new, whereas linen is older than cotton.”
Anavila says she has also experimented with new weaves such as the twill, herring bone and satin.
“The saris are understated and the collection is for women who want to try something new and are confident. I think it suits the weather in Bangalore.”
The collection is priced at Rs. 8,000 upwards for saris and Rs. 1,300 upwards for stoles.
The designer summer collection will be on view until February 6 at Basava Ambara, 93, Kanakapura Road, next to New Generation School, opposite Krishna Rao Park, Basavanagudi.
