Anand Kabra unveiled his limited edition collection for the party season
As the evening sun rays trickle through Spoil lounge, designer Anand Kabra is a busy man overlooking last-minute arrangements for his limited edition trunk show. The lounge transforms itself into a makeshift boutique. Mannequins adorning pieces from his latest collection are carefully positioned on the wooden floor. “There's always been a complaint that despite being from Hyderabad, I don't do special shows here. So I thought of this limited edition trunk show,” Anand Kabra says with a smile.
Dressed in a casual brown check trousers, tee and a black jacket, he shows the new collection targeted at the year-end party season. Dresses, cocktail saris, tunics, trousers and wraps that he showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week are part of the collection. Barring a few pieces in bright hues, black, white and grey shades are predominant in the fall/winter collection. “People are playing safe with colours now. Brighter colours have instant recall value and you end up not being able to repeat the dress too often,” he reasons.
A few early bird customers walked in picking up their choice and placing orders for more. Anand skilfully mixes and matches trousers, leggings, tunics and wraps to arrive at new looks. “The same few pieces can be matched unconventionally to make your wardrobe more functional,” he elaborates. The silhouette is more structured and focussed on body fits, he adds. “People are tired of carrying out the frumpy look. Classic cuts never go out of fashion.” A few pieces with mirror work on black base are from his fall/winter line, ‘And the mirror cracked'. The mirrors, cut and filed tactfully, are placed imaginatively and discreetly to add subtle sparkle on dresses, blouses, tunics and trousers.
