The Bridal Edition of Kochi International Fashion Week opens today

Fashion comes knocking once gain on the doorstep of the city. The Bridal Edition of the Kingfisher Kochi International Fashion Week begins today and this time the love mood rules.

City-based designer Hari Anand opens the show with his collection, ‘The Secret Garden’, modelling his craft and lines on the show stopper, Edappally girl, and Ford Supermodel 2009, Sherin Sam.

Love is in the air, if one goes by Hari’s inspired collection. It is about a girl who loves nature, flowers… Paradoxically Hari says, “love is there…it is not there. It is unseen. My garments will bring out the intangible essence of love.” And that will be seen in rose buds and ribbons, in winking crystals and delicate embroidery.

The colour palette will be a montage of cream, beige, off whites in satins, silks, and Kerala fabric embellished to turn into a garden where love will bloom and grow.

The soothing strains of Pachelbel’s Canon will vie with the music of the Irish- Norwegian band, The Secret Garden. “The wedding gown is the show stopper garment. The new generation bride as a persona is very evolved. She does not want to wear striking colours but make subtle statements.” Hari is showcasing 24 garments.

Choreographer Dalu, a known name and face in the fashion circles says excitedly about the changing face of fashion in Kochi. Imagine two fashion weeks in a year. “Kerala leads in the gold market and the same trend is seen in couture too.”

Öne of the non-fashion cities has become highly fashionable, gushes Sherin Sam who will be walking the ramp. Wishing to train as a pilot she became a part of this field serendipitously and has gone on to the runways of Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week, Lakme India Fashion Week and become the Ford supermodel, 2009. Gaurav Sharma of Storm Fashion says, “We believe in entering newer markets that have potential, but have not been fashionably integrated yet. They would be growth drivers and we discovered Kochi.”

But the city has thrown up a new niche to the fashion scene and that’s bridal wear. The city has an audience for spring summer collection but it has a larger bridal audience, he says. The designers who will be showcasing their bridal collections are Hari Anand, Shravan Ramaswamy, AD Sing, Krishna Mehta, Soltee from Delhi, Julie Verghese, Verma D’mello, Riyaz Gangj, Jatin Kochhar. Known models Bhumika Singh, Payal Rohatgi and Olympian wrestler Sangram Singh are expected to walk the ramp.
