Be a head turner

An international stylist, Diego Perez’ passion is making hair look healthy and gorgeous. Ask him the secret and

he says, running his hand over his pate, that it all depends on the products you use. Applying lip balm in between shots he decides to pose without his jacket. And like an enthusiastic child hurries to see how the photos have come out. Once all that’s done he settles down to discuss Rene Furterer, the French brand he is currently working with.

Diego has been in this field for 18 years and has also worked with leading cosmetic giants such as Lancome, Yves Saint Laurent and Helena Rubinstein, before settling down with RF. Essentially a hair care brand, the fundamentals of the range is phyto-therapy, which means it works with plant extracts and essential oils. “To get a healthy plant you need to take care of the soil. Similarly for beautiful hair you need healthy scalp,” says Diego.

Rene Furterer may sound new to Indian ears but the brand has been around for a long while and has established a strong presence in high-end salons in France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the U.S. Apparently the only salon in India that endorses this brand as of now is Ravissant in Delhi. But come December Chennai too can sample the wonders of Rene Furterer at Cut It Out. The salon will offer both retail packs and treatments, which could cost between Rs. 1,800 and Rs. 2,000.

In the city to train students of Cut It Out academy on the usage of RF products, Diego explains the different types of scalp-related worries — oily scalp and oily hair, oily scalp and dry hair, dry scalp and dry hair, sensitive irritable scalp, apart from hair loss, dandruff and chemically-treated hair. “The RF method follows three steps. First prepare the scalp, then wash and then treat the scalp. The first step prepares the scalp to receive the treatment, which enables better penetration of the products,” he says in his heavy French accent. He believes that every place, depending on its climate and roots has its own needs and for the Chennai climate what we need is a product that reduces frizz and smoothens hair.

To tackle monsoon woes, he says, “This kind of season results in limp hair, hair loss and frizzy hair. Use a wide toothed comb, a good conditioner and ensure you buy hair products after consultation with a hair expert rather than just buying it off the shelf.”
