My skin is a little patchy. I have an oily complexion and small pimples on my face. Which night cream should I use?— Shweta

If you have oily and pimple-prone skin, do not apply any cream. At night, cleanse your face and avoid applying creams and moisturisers. After washing your face in the morning, apply an astringent lotion using cotton wool. Add a little rose water to sandalwood paste and apply it on the oily and pimple-prone areas daily. Wash it off after 15 minutes. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply it three times a week on your face, avoiding the lips and the area around your eyes. Wash it off after it dries.

How can I make rose water? I bought rose water which irritates my eyes.— Vijay

Rose water should not be applied inside the eyes. Soak cotton wool pads in rose water and use them as eye pads on closed eyes. Rose water is made by a process of distillation. If you wish to make it at home, you can try this easy method. Take an enamel or steel vessel and put fresh rose petals in it. For one cup of rose petals, pour 2 cups of hot water. Cover and let the petals steep in the water till the liquid becomes cool. Strain the water and squeeze out the liquid from the petals. Keep the rose water in an airtight bottle in the fridge.

Suggest remedies for dull and puffy eyes.— Suhasini

For puffy eyes, consult a doctor to make sure your kidneys and sinuses are functioning well. Ask for dietary advice too. Do not leave make-up or cream on the eyes at night when you sleep. It can lead to puffiness around the eyes. You can try these simple home remedies. Apply a compress of cold water directly on your closed lids and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. Or soak cotton wool pads in chilled rose water and let them rest under your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. It’s a good idea to lie down and rest while you do this.

I have combination skin. There are small and big pores on my chin and forehead. Suggest remedies for dull skin and removing tan.— Krithi

The pores on the chin and forehead are due to oiliness in these areas. In combination skin, the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), is oily. Apply astringent lotion on these areas after washing your face. Mix oats with egg white and apply it on these areas two or three times a week. Wash it off after it dries. You can also mix rice powder with a little curd and a pinch of turmeric and use it as a facial scrub two or three times a week. Rub it gently on the skin with small circular strokes and wash it off with water. This will help remove the tan and brighten your face.

Are there any remedies for stretch marks?— Rose

Stretch marks usually fade with time, but never do so completely because they form when the elasticity of the skin is destroyed. Massage the affected areas of your skin daily with olive oil. Mix gram flour with curd and a little turmeric into a paste and apply it on these areas three times a week. Wash it off after half an hour.
