Suggest a remedy to reduce split ends and dry hair.— Nisha

Snipping off the split ends is the only remedy. Avoid tying your hair tightly with rubber bands. Avoid using hair dryers and brushes. Use a wide-toothed comb. Twice a week, heat pure coconut oil and apply it on the hair. Apply it on the ends too. Then soak a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the hot towel around your head like a turban. Keep it on for five minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap three or four times. This helps the hair and scalp absorb the oil better. Use a mild herbal shampoo. Use less shampoo and rinse it off well. After shampoo, apply a creamy conditioner, take just a little of it and massage it lightly into your hair. Apply it on the ends too. Leave it on for two minutes before rinsing it off. You can also apply a leave-in conditioner or hair serum. Apply it in the same way, but do not rinse it off.

I have chicken pox marks on my face right from childhood. Suggest an affordable and simple cure. —Umabharathi

Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and a little water. After washing your face in the morning, apply the paste only on the marks and wash it off after five minutes. Use a facial scrub twice a week. Rice powder and curd make a good scrub. Apply it on the face and rub it gently on the skin with small circular movements, especially on the areas with marks. Wash it off with water. Twice a week, take one teaspoon of multani mitti, two teaspoons of ground almonds, one teaspoon each of honey, curd and egg white. Mix these into a paste. Apply it on the face, avoiding the lips and the area around the eyes. Wash it off after 20 to 30 minutes. For dry skin, add one teaspoon of pure almond oil. If there is dryness, take two teaspoons of curd, add a pinch of turmeric; apply it on your face and wash it off after 15 minutes. This will also help reduce marks.

I get a lot of pimples on my forehead. Suggest some home remedies.— Preethi

Check if you have dandruff or an oily scalp, as it can lead to pimples on the forehead. After a shampoo wash, add the juice of a lemon to half a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. Wash your face twice a day, in the morning and night, with a medicated soap. Then wipe it with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply it on your forehead. Wash it off after 15 minutes. As an alternative, boil neem leaves on a low fire. Cool and strain the liquid. Make a paste of the leaves and apply it daily on pimples. Wash it off with after half an hour. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply it on the face two or three times a week. Wash it off after it dries.
