A burst of tangerine keeps things bright and zingy this summer
It must be nice to re-address the ordinary and push it into the realm of the fancy. In palette parlance, midnight blue sounds way better than navy, rust more than brick red, champagne better than faded peach, teal better than, well, blue-green. And, therein, comes tangerine, which has emerged the hottest hue of this season due to people's natural leaning towards things fruity and/or floral in summer. Case in point being Nicole Kidman in a tangerine Antonio Berardi day dress at the Paperboy photo call in Cannes. A modern alternative to the Ralph Lauren and Lanvin evening dresses through which she channelled old Hollywood glamour the rest of the event. Emma Stone, now busy publicising Amazing Spider-Man around the globe, has taken to tangerine well — Carven at the American Museum of Natural History's 2011 Museum Gala and a sporty Rue de Mail mini dress at the film's premiere in Tokyo.
Armani, a label that's more comfortable in steel gray and black, made tangerine a part of its Fall/ Winter 2012 colour story, as did Lanvin in Paris. So did Versace in its narcissistic Fall/ Winter 2012-13 line that showed in Milan.
