Milan Fashion Week was a whirlwind of fun for tourists

I am no fashion writer, however, I made a foray as a publicist in the Indian fashion industry in the year 2006. My true realisation of the spirit of the fashion scenario happened during the March 2009 Delhi Fashion Week. A refreshing start — a promise of excitement!

Electrifying

I arrived in Milan to watch the Roberto Cavalli show. Milan was an energising, electrifying, buzzing experience. The Roberto Cavalli show area was huge and must have easily accommodated a few thousand people. The ramp was long; however, once the show started, it was fast paced, with nearly 40 models sashaying down. It concluded in 20 minutes flat and left me craving for more. Gimme more, I thought!

Huge LCD screens that displayed live feeds of the fashion show were put up in Milan. These screens certainly added to the super cool feel of the city. The city offers great shopping: the Prada stores at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and via della spiga, the super chic Hermes store at via Montenapoleone and the not-so-cool Chanel store. The Armani store at Manzoni took my breath away.

I can’t end this without mentioning India’s moment of pride at Milan — when two of India’s most talented upcoming designers, Atsu and Azara, showcased with the likes of Cavalli, Armani, Prada and Versace at the Milan Fashion Week. The showcase was made possible through an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding signed between Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana — the apex fashion body of Italy that organises the Milan Fashion Week — and Sumeet Nair of the Fashion Foundation of India.

The show must definitely go on! What say?
