Cindy Crawford flashes a stunning uncut diamond-encrusted necklace and multi-coloured finger ring in fashion glossy Vogue's October issue (Indian edition). The pictures of Crawford romancing the rocks run from the cover to several pages inside, where the diva displays a wide array of jewellery created by India's luxury brand Rose.
Mumbai-based Rose that's a hit with the style cognoscenti comes to Chennai today for a show at Studio Saks, Gopalapuram. Says Rose's managing director and design head, Biren Vaidya: “The line for our Chennai debut is special. Called ‘My Rose for every occasion', the collection is a tribute to today's woman who is constantly dealing with a range of moods and roles. It plays around with colourful gemstones such as rubies and emeralds.”
Talking of the three-decade-old brand's accent on luxury, Vaidya says: “Rose is an experience. Connoisseurs can tell the difference in terms of cut, styling and quality of stones and gold used. Our philosophy is not to make season-bound pieces, but to crate heirlooms that can be passed on from one generation to another.”
Listing a client list comprising a string of Bollywood A-listers and top business families in India and abroad, Vaidya explains it's not easy to strike a balance between contemporary tastes and classic appeal. “Design has to be timeless, yet appeal to today's woman with demanding schedules and constantly evolving tastes. We create four lines a year. This year, one of our collections, ‘My trousseau, my treasure,' is culture-centric – at the same time it celebrates the spirit of the global Indian. While Brides and Beads plays with a splash of hues, Opera is art-deco inspired. Gold accentuated with diamonds is the focus of another limited-edition line that smacks of ostentation.”
While old meets new and East meets West in a seamless way in Rose's designs, what really sets the collection apart is the variety of bespoke stone settings and shapes. “We take care to change that all the time. By experimenting with shapes and settings, we make the pieces enhance both ethnic and modern outfits.”
Shimmering cascade necklaces, ethnic balas, statement finger rings, and drop earrings that sway to your body movement… Rose has all these and more at the Chennai show, on today and tomorrow.
