A fashion show by children and teenagers was held in the city recently. The event, organised by Fabindia showcased cool cottons for kids and teenagers in a variety of styles and colours from the Fabindia collection. The ramp show was split into two sections; Indian and Western wear with pastel shades and ice candy colours taking centre stage.
Off to a rocking start
The event started off with the Indian round featuring ethnic chic wear. ‘Laila Mein Laila' blared in the background as the brother-sister team of Anouska and Aditya began the show. While Anouska was dressed in a halter neck styled choli and a ghagra (crushed material) in pale blue, Aditya was dressed in a light blue kurta-pyjama. Poornima in a rust-orange sleeveless choli and an uneven ghagra was charming as was Aashi who was dressed in a maroon ghagra-choli with a matching duppata draped on her hair. Seeing the other girls twirling their duppatas on stage, little Aashi tried twirling hers too.
The Western wear round saw more of a variety in terms of wear. Girls and young women did the cat walk dressed in skirts, capris, tank tops, balloon tops and layered tops, the boys and young men were dressed in shirts, short kurtas and trousers. The highlights of this round would be Raina dressed in a pink tank-like top and a dull blue A-line mini-skirt, Adil in a striped orange and white shirt and grey trousers and Dhananjay in a rust brown kurta and maroon pants. While Raina looked simply adorable clutching a pink party bag to match her outfit and donning pink and white striped cooling glasses to complete the look, the boys wooed the crowd with some impromptu dance moves on stage.
Although the venue (the car parking area of Fabindia), was rather humid, the children seemed to be oblivious to the heat as they were dressed in breathable cottons. Also the pattern and cuts for the outfits, be it Indian or Western were fuss free, making it easy to put on and take off without the hassle of complicated zips and buttons. Although they had only one practice session before the event, the young models did a fine job. The fashion show was organised by Fabindia in connection with a promo for kid's clothing.
