BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Workshop

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducts workshops for children on March 27. Presented by Paul Rissman and musicians from the BBC SSO, ‘An Introduction to the Instruments of the Orchestra’ will provide a rare opportunity for children aged 7-12 to meet the musicians of the BBC SSO and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Besides, the children will get to hear the musicians play in three ensembles.

9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.: Workshop by String Quartet (2 Violins, 1 Viola and 1 Cello).

11.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m.: Workshop by Wind Quintet (1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon)

1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Workshop by Brass Quintet (2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba)

Schools can choose one among the three workshops to participate. Each school can send a maximum of 50 students for the workshops. Time slot allocation and reservation will be made only after email confirmation is received from the school.

Both the events have been organised entirely through Rhapsody Education Through Music which was founded by classical pianist Anil Srinivasan and headed by music educator and principal faculty Sudha Raja. Rhapsody now works with almost 90,000 children in three states from all strata of society. It has partnered with the BBC to bring these events to the children of Chennai.

On Friday, March 28 , the BBC SSO, Rhapsody Education Through Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will perform for 2,500 children from 35 Chennai Schools. An Introduction to the Orchestra will be presented by Paul Rissman, The BBC SSO, musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Conductor James MacMillan. Rissman introduces a spectacular interactive concert by the BBC SSO with guest players from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in a programme of extraordinary orchestral music, accompanied by images on a big screen. There will be two performances for children aged 7 to 12.

Concert 1 will take place from10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and Concert 2 from 12.45 p.m. to 13.45 p.m. at Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Shenstone Park, 13/1, 7, Harrington Road, Chetpet.

Schools can choose one of the two concerts to participate. Each school can send a maximum of 150 students for the concert. Time slot allocation and reservations will be made only after email confirmation is received from the school.
