In an attempt to create awareness on protecting the living monuments and to revive the old painting concepts and architectural splendour, the Department of Archaeology in association with Art and Culture Development Centre and Koolangal Education Research Centre, will organise a workshop and exhibition for school and college students at the Thirumalai Naick Palace from April 21.
The main objective of the six-day workshop is to introduce culture and heritage to the students. “By recreating the sculptures through painting, students will get a dose of historical significance of that place. It is like re-enactment of the scene,” says G. Chandrasekaran one of the promoters for this event.
“It will be a good exercise for the students to understand history and archaeology,” promises Senthil Selvan of Art and Culture Development Centre.
Along with the students reputed painters, poets, writers and photographers will also participate and record their works. Students will get an opportunity to see live demonstrations and meet the experts to gather more information about that place.
The participants will also get to meet renowned experts in archaeology and art history, who will brief salient features of the palace and the King Thirumalai Naick’s valuable contribution to the growth of the city.
Workshop will be organised on the first two days and exhibition and interactive sessions will be held on the last four days.
The art works students create during the workshop will be exhibited for public view at the palace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
