Crosstalk in Sumukha Art Gallery features the works of four artists — Lokesh BH, Naveen Kumar, Aishwaryan K and Mohan Kumar. It is an attempt by the four to cope with contemporary living. Lokesh’s works offer a slice of history. The transitions from present to future combines reality and fantasy. “My compositions are based on observation of human relationships and interactions,” says Lokesh. “There is so much creativity around us, I let my art do the talking.” Inspired by folk art, Lokesh uses bright colours.
Naveen’s nostalgic art works echo the stories told by his grandfather. With interactive miniatures and text in the background, his art talks of emotions, philosophy and day-to-day incidents. “I pick up random objects and try to creatively connect the unknown. The challenge lies in the perspective. For instance, I made a model of infinite stair case to signify the concept of growth.”
With jugaad dil, chillar dil and baraati dil, Aishwaryan has his way of portraying quirks of life and the balance between sorrow and joy, whimsy and seriousness. “Textures help me symbolise emotions in my art work. I make models in shape of a heart using scrap material to signify emotions of love and hate. There is too much hate around us, why not spread some love?” asks Aishwaryan.
The fourth pillar of Crosstalk, Mohan Kumar Kumar creates a social commentary, his private experiences and those of his associates becoming the subject matter for the narratives.
His work reflects an ability to balance an understanding of the harsh truths of life with an element of humour and a pragmatic acceptance of the present.
Crosstalk is an art gallery of four minds who have defined art on their own terms and experiences.
With each art work distinct from another, each artist underlines a perspective to explore.
Crosstalk is on until June 21 from Monday to Saturday from 10.30 to 6 p.m. at Sumukha Art Gallery, Wilson Garden.
