Dramatic hairdos, exaggerated kohl-lined eyes, Gothic art, science fiction-inspired make-up...the recently held Toni & Guy event, at Vadapalani, rated high on innovation, and featured edgy, intriguing and over-the-top mane-related fashion. Interestingly, a major chunk of the avant-garde hair styles that were showcased were created out of a large quantity of recycled and processed hair that had been collected for over a year from the T&G salons across Chennai.

The three rounds — Colour Me Beautiful by Wella (had models showing off hues such as red, purple and green), All Black Sequence and Toni & Guy’s Black Magic Collection (inspired by T&G’s look book collection ) displayed wings made of hair, hair wrapped around an inverted umbrella, ice sticks popping out from a tuft of tousled strands, crimps, curls and colours. The show also marked the launch of Toni & Guy’s new salon at Forum Mall, Vadapalani.

Priya’s take

Earlier in the day, the new salon was inaugurated by actor Priya Anand. “I have been to salons across the world where you walk in and don't feel welcome. When I go visit a salon I want to wear shorts and chappals and not step in all dressed up. I go there to feel better. Toni & Guy is a fun salon where I feel comfortable,” says Priya. This season, the salon has launched a line of hair extensions from Balmain Hair +, the fashion brand from Paris.

“I used quite a few extensions for my role in English Vinglish . If I were to choose a shade now I would go in for pink extensions,” says Priya. Not just the coloured ones, there are also extensions that can give you the fringe, bang and volume you’ve been longing for without having to cut your hair. A host of celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Paula Abdul, Mila Kunis, Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian rely on Balmain Hair + for that perfect red carpet look...and just a few minutes is all it takes.

In addition, this salon is one of the first in the city to have mini television screens at every counter. This means not having to make a choice — to either endure a bad hair day or miss your favourite television show.
