It’s jewellery coup when Venetian lace patterning replicated in old rose and yellow gold meets with a magical sprinkling of tiny, twinkling diamonds! Shachee’s inspiration is Venetian lace and how she spins gold to achieve its exquisite ethereal effect is at once a secret of tools and technology, handwork and imagination, and mysterious romantic and ineffably delicate. In fact, her exquisite one-off bracelet looks as though Venetian lace has been dipped in old gold; a closer look reveals how gold has been spun and twisted to achieve the effect. Says Shachee, “I do every piece totally by hand.”
A wonderful range of lacy bracelets, necklaces with an asymmetrical touch and jhumkas and drop earrings are on view at her exhibition Shachee. Her pieces are for the discerning. Using gold, diamonds and the latest micro-engineering manufacturing techniques, Shachee is all about signature creations of subtle elegance — from a pair of exquisite leaf earrings with a diamond-studded spine to butterfly earrings and pendants. Winner of the DeBeers award for best design, Shachee’s jewellery was exhibited at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.
Jason Cherian’s Small Shop exhibition presents Indian festive wear for the young. Flowing, billowing organza and Chanderi swathes over jewel-coloured tunic-like dresses that could stand alone or be teamed with churidars. The colours range from ivory white and lime green to pink and jewel tones. Also available are ghagras with the billowing, flared look, interesting saris using the discharge technique to create fascinating textures, blouses to match and more.
Both exhibitions are on at Amethyst, Whites Road, Royapettah till November 16.
