Fans of embroidery, here’s a line-up to get you nostalgic – convent embroidery, phulkari, pattiwork, sujani, sozni, aari, chikan, kantha, Kashmiri aari – all feature on Indian and Western ready-to-wear dresses, kurtas, saris, and dupattas this festive season.
HandsOfIndia, an organisation which works with a network of over 50 artisan groups all over India, is back with its festive sale.
The five-day exhibition features hand-woven and hand-embroidered products apparels, saris, home furnishings, and dupattas. All products are made from hand-woven and handprinted fabrics that are hand-embroidered by artisan groups based in villages. The exhibition also features an on-the-spot alteration counter at the venue.
Started in 2005 by sisters Ramya and Malyada, HandsOfIndia also runs a training school for tailors in Vridavan, Uttar Pradesh. Besides providing employment for them, HandsOfIndia also strives to find market for their products. The organisation directly markets the products without any middlemen.
HandsOfIndia will be on from September 19 to 23, at Lady Jehangir Hall, Queen’s Circle.
