A film festival on the creation of national identity

National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is hosting a film festival as a prelude to the exhibition “India & Art during Independence: Creation of a National Identity” between August 16 and 26, 3 p.m. onwards.

The films that will be screened include Pather Panchali, Shatranj Ke Khilari, Pyaasa, Koodal, Mother India, Rashtriya Kheer & Desi Salad, Through the Eyes of a Painter, Lines of Mahatma, Gandhi - Through The Eyes of A Cartoonist and more. A total of 24 films will be screened, including shorts, documentaries and feature films. The selection features films made by Satyajit Ray, Tyeb Mehta, Arun Khopkar, M.F. Husain, Ritwik Ghatak and many more.

The films will be screened on August 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24 and 26, from 3 p.m. onwards, at the NGMA, Manikyavelu Mansion. Entry to the film festival is free and on a first-come-first-serve basis.
