Comic Con Express in Hyderabad promises to be more than just cartoons

Ever been to an event that has everyone from Superman, Iron Man to Suppandi and Sponge Bob walking around interacting with people? Sounds like the stuff fantasies are made of? But at Comic Con India’s Cosplay this is a regular feature. Comic book fans from across the country meet at this annual event dressed as their favourite characters. And this time Comic Con Express is going to make a pit stop in the city on September 21 and 22.

The third such express tour by Comic Con India, which launched in 2011 in Delhi, the two-day event will have everything from workshops, book launches, sale of comics and exclusive merchandise to the now famous Cosplay. And according to Jatin Varma, founder of Comic Con India, they had been bombarded by messages requesting them to come to Hyderabad. “One of the primary reasons we decided to launch Comic Con India was because the country has a large number of graphic novel artistes who had no place to come together to showcase and sell their work. That is when we pooled in resources and decided to launch Comic Con India in February 2011. Ever since we have only been growing and the event has been getting bigger and better,” he says.

One of the biggest draws at the events is Cosplay, where fans come dressed as their favourite comic book character. The two-day event will have a Cosplay parade in the evenings with the judges picking the best dressed character. That apart the Hyderabad leg of the express tour will also have some exclusive book launches and sessions with publishers. For instance, the Mr. Darcy fans can look forward to the comic book version of the classic novel Pride & Prejudice apart from Ravanayan Finale and Odayan. “We will also have some exclusive merchandise from Tintin and Amar Chitra Katha. The Comic Con Express is targeted at the youth, but we do have a lot of older people also taking part dressed as various characters,” says Jatin.

The event will be held at Hitex on September 21 and 22.
