Win for IIMB
A five-member team from the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB), comprising Soumya Gupta, Pratik Jaipuriar, Saakshi Mahajan, Siddharth Agarwal and Abhishek Agarwal, all finance majors of PGP2, has won the national finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2013-14. They will represent India at the Asia Pacific Finals to be held in Singapore in April.
The annual CFA Challenge is a global event and is often referred to as the ‘Investment Olympiad’ and tests the students’ skills in equity research and valuation, investment report writing, and making presentations. This initiative promotes best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills.
Volunteers of CFA Institute work in conjunction with participating universities to assemble teams of three to five finance students. Each team then works directly with a mentor to research and prepare an equity research report on a publicly traded company. The findings are evaluated by panels of heads of research, portfolio managers, and chief investment officers from some of the world’s top firms.
The IIMB team won the south zone contest and then proceeded to win the national finals.
E-Week 2014
The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of BMS College of Engineering set the ball rolling for ‘E-Week 2014’. Colleges from across the country, who have National Entrepreneurship Network in their campus, participated.
The event acts as a platform where students can have the opportunity to see their ideas taking shape as ingenious start-ups. Principal Mallikharjuna Babu, S. Nagendra, Dean-MBA, and R& D Director Martin Jebiraj were present. The chief guest was Chakradhari Rowe, Founder of GYAI (Gen Y Awakening India), & edupreneur coach at TIGERS-Leveraging Vision.
The events scheduled in E-Week-2014 at the BMS College campus comprise E-Walk, Flea-Market, Internship fair, Internship drive, B-Plan workshop and a road show by the college theatre team.
Woman Accomplished
Ahead of Women’s Week that started on March 3 (with Women’s Day celebrated on March 8), Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI), in association with Lions Club, Doddaballapur, organised the graduation day for Project Woman Accomplished.
K.M. Hanumantharayappa, Chairman, Doddaballapur Lions Charitable Trust, L.M. Krishnamurty, Secretary, Lions Club, Doddaballapur, and R. Janardhan, Senior Executive Vice-President, DSI, honoured the students of Woman Accomplished Project. The project was planned and executed successfully to transform women into working professionals. These were women whose education and advancements had ceased due to increased family responsibilities, a release said. Project Woman Accomplished offered these women the opportunity to resume their learning in English, computers and life skills.
Out of 25 women who joined the programme, 21 successfully qualified and were presented with certificates.
Symposio 2014
Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bangalore (SIBM-B), hosted its first national-level student conference “Symposio 2014”. The theme was “Big Data Analytics: Transforming Businesses from Reactive to Proactive”
The event was conceptualised as it felt there was a dire need for the students to “dip their foot into the field of research as there were ample seminars and conferences held across the nation but none to promote research. To make this event a grand success we had speakers who have excelled in the field of analytics and Big Data”, a release said.
Raghava Rau, Co-founder and CEO of Big Data Analytics India Pvt. Ltd., gave a brief insight on data analytics and enlightened the students on the current source and applications of Big Data.
QuEST Ingenium
‘QuEST Ingenium 2014’ is back with its fourth edition. Presented by QuEST Global, the company has invited applications for its annual intercollegiate engineering design competition.
Participation is open to final year B.E. /B.Tech degree projects having direct bearing on the areas of Aerospace, Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Power Generation, Automobile and Embedded. The top three teams will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively.

Cancer awareness
As a part of International Women’s Day and Cancer Awareness Month, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology and M.S. Ramaiah Teaching Hospital organised a cancer awareness programme for all the women employees and students.
Acharya Habba
The preparations for the month-long Acharya Habba 2014, the national techno-cultural fest hosted by Acharya Institutes annually, was launched recently. The official theme song of the habba “Habbakke ready na” was highlighted.
The principals of the 11 institutions under Acharya Institutes were present at the stadium. The Hindu is the media partner for the event.
