If you have not yet woken up to the festive season, just visit Golden Window. The colours, shine and glitter will have a cracker of an effect on you. It is a special time, as the boutique is gearing up for Deepavali and 10 years of its existence.
“We have built up a happy client base,” says Usha of Golden Window. The boutique is sought after for the embroidery work and embellishments it does to traditional saris to give them that extra oomph.
Over the years they have helped young brides put together enviable trousseaus that have been a judicious mix of the traditional and the modern.
A team of embroiderers and tailors create exclusive saris and elaborate blouses to go with them. “We take pride in our blouses,” says Usha as she shows a hand embroidered and pearl-encrusted blouse they have made for a lucky bride. “We usually ask the brides to show us the jewellery they plan to wear at their wedding, and our embroidery takes its cue from that,” she explains.
For the 10-year milestone, Golden Window showcases the work of designer Anshuma Damani, known for her collection Aida. She presents her new collection that is called Kalaborate at the boutique.
The highlight of her range is silk saris with foil printing. In a gorgeous palette of colours, the saris are light and yet dressy enough to wear for weddings and festivals.
She also brings Chanderis and Maheshwaris in refreshing blues, olive greens and other earthy tones, that are affordable and very pretty.
Another sari that catches the eye is a combination of attached Benarsi/brocade borders and kaantha embroidery.
The unusual marriage works because of the interesting textures and patterns in the same sari. It is sure to be a conversation starter!
Stripes, prints, embroideries and embellishments make each sari special. There is also a range of salwar kameez materials and dupattas to choose from in both cottons and silks.
