Tasteofkochi.com takes the online food shopping experience to another level. You feel like eating out, just log on, pick the eatery and the food that you want, order and within an hour you can ‘eat from out’ without stepping out of the comfort of your home.

The brainchild of two youngsters, Lalu Raj and Amal M.P., this website is a month old and “word of mouth publicity is helping us greatly,” says Lalu. Lalu, an engineer, and Amal, an MBA, are childhood friends and colleagues. Lalu says he has always wanted to venture out on his own and try his hand at being an entrepreneur. “I convinced Amal to join me.” Both quit their sales jobs with a car dealer and struck out on their own.

As of now they have tie-ups with some eateries on the Vytilla - Palarivattom stretch - NBC, Cochin Majilis, KR Bakes and New Malaya Chinese Restaurant. “The location of these eateries makes pick-up and delivery easy. We plan to rope in more eateries as we go ahead.” A service charge of Rs. 20 is collected from the customer at the time of delivery.

They say they will deliver in Kochi (read Kaloor, Palarivattom, Kalamasserry, Edappally, Tripunithura and Kakkanad) and that they have no minimum order stipulation. They also assure that the deliveries will be made within an hour of the order being placed. There are two delivery slots (12 noon, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.).

For the time being the duo is handling delivery along with a couple of friends who are pitching in to help. Business is just picking up but weekends are busy. The website is comprehensive with the rates appearing along side an image of the dish. And for those who want to compare options there is the compare option too. Eating out has, therefore, just got easier.
