When circumstances are not supporting the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, a few people are coming up with ways to unite people and motivate them to welcome the event and be good hosts. Music composer Anand Raj Anand recently launched his new album, which he said, “is a common man's tribute to the Commonwealth Games 2010.”
The idea behind the album was to request people to come out and play a responsible role in the games. Apart from this, the songs from the album will help to create awareness and entertain a diverse Indian audience to support the biggest sporting event taking place in the history of our country,” said the singer at the launch of the album in New Delhi.
When things cannot be avoided, he said, “it becomes our responsibility to come together and make them happen.” In spite of the odds, “we should appreciate the fact that we are hosting a capacious event and a lot of hard work has already been invested into it.” To mark the launch, Anand performed live in front of the audience to songs from his album.
The first song celebrates the joy of being together. “Saara jahan hua ek re, India mein lag gaya mela re” are the opening lines of the song with a high-voltage background music. The second song is an invitation song, “Come out and play”. Tuned to a soulful composition, it invites the world to come, participate and live the experience called ‘Incredible India'.
Following Anand's performance, the album was released by Member of Parliament Raja Randhir Singh and politician Rajiv Shukla.
“Rhythm is very important as it brings out the warmth and emotions of a song,” said Anand. “Rahman created his compositions keeping in mind the global audience, while the songs from my album have been composed keeping in mind the local audience, with fusion music,” he said when asked about the cold response with which the theme song composed by Rahman for the Games met. The album, he said, is a part of his journey of responsibility through which he expresses his wish that all the wishes of his country come true.
Excited about performing at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games next month, he said, “I feel honoured to get a chance to welcome people from all over the world and perform in front of them.”
