According to data by International Diabetes Federation, India has the maximum cases of diabetes among all countries, with the figure crossing the 50 million mark. India is also faced with increasing obesity, and in such a situation, the need for healthier options emerges.

Nowadays doctors, nutritionists and dieticians are increasingly recommending brown rice as an excellent source of all round nutrition. Aiming to cater to the rising demand for brown basmati rice is Best Food Limited, one of India’s largest and fastest growing companies which launched its basmati brown rice in the Capital recently.

High Fibre

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Ritika Samaddar, chief nutritionist, Max Healthcare, said “There are some proven reasons regarding the nutrition benefits of brown rice. The most important thing about brown rice is that it is rich in fibre which is present in the brown bran layer of grains. The health benefits of a high fibre diet are being stressed by medical experts and this alone is a good reason why we should eat brown rice instead of regular basmati white rice. It is an incredible source of B-Complex vitamins.

Aayushman Gupta, CEO, Best Foods Ltd., remarked, “We are driven by a single minded philosophy of offering only the best to the consumers.” He accepted that their prices are a bit high (1 kg pack of brown rice costs Rs.150) but hopes that within months as the consumer demands increase the prices will come down. He also revealed that the rice isn’t handled till the packing state so as to keep the nutrient value intact as much as possible.

Best brown rice is available in over 100 outlets in Delhi /NCR & other key cities across the country. It is also available at 40 outlets in Delhi and NCR where they retail other varieties of rice, honey, walnuts, pistachios and almonds.
