EVENT: A fashion show and a live band lent a party feel to the launch of the Taj group’s Vivanta brand in Chennai

Imagine waking up in a bed that faces the sea, remembering that limousine ride that pleasantly surprised you with its small treats and looking forward to seeing the sun meeting the horizon to say goodbye — it’s an experience that can make you come alive, or what Taj calls the Vivanta experience.

The Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces has begun the process of rolling over 19 of its hotels to their new brand Vivanta By Taj. Chennai’s very own Fisherman’s Cove and Taj Connemara will become Vivanta By Taj,-Fisherman’s Cove and Vivanta By Taj- Connemara.

“This exercise of building our brand architecture began seven years ago in consultation with Landor, one of the world’s leading brand consultancy firms. A massive process that spread across five continents involved interviews with our old, new and prospective customers, travel agents and hoteliers among others. Four brands for the Taj emerged from this process — the Taj, Ginger Hotels, Gateway Hotels and the latest being Vivanta Hotels,” said Mr. Veer Vijay Singh, Chief Operating Officer, Indian Hotels Company Limited.

Coming after pilot studies of their hotels in Whitefield in Bangalore, Panaji in Goa and the Maldives, the Vivanta brand was launched this month as an amalgamation of the findings. A total capacity of 2,500 rooms in the 19 hotels that fall within this umbrella combined with a work force that is trained in a set of 150 touch points will form the hardware and software of these five star upper-upscale luxury hotels. “Thirty-eight of these touch points are unique to our brand like the electronic paging boards at airports; the low calorie drink, mobile services and massage seats on the limousine ride to the hotel; and a special laundry service for kids, where the entire bag is charged and not single units of clothing,” added Mr. Singh.

The new block at Fisherman’s Cove will have over 62 rooms, a banquet block, conference block, lounge and a gymnasium for its guests. Pets are welcome too, with special services like beds, special menus and grooming facilities being available.

Bringing in the celebrity quotient and the glamour to the event was the Party Animal Collection put together by Goan designer Wendell Rodricks and presented by Prasad Bidapa. The colours were vivid and the model vivacious, with the central theme being the beach and the tropical setting — something common to both Chennai and Goa.

Just as the after party began, the strains of world music rendered by Kolkata-based Hip Pocket set the stage for a perfect end to the evening.
