HYDERABAD: Feel a touch of rock, a dash of disco, a hint of blues, a shout of pop and a pinch of electronica and out comes ‘Best Kept Secret’. A band that has a huge craze in music loving youth across the country. “May I add, from abroad as well,” suggests Behram the lead vocalist of the band.

A few years old, Best Kept Secret is the outcome of a ‘One Night Stand.’ “One night stands are always the best kept secret,” laughs Behram, adding “In reality we were born from what was supposed to be one gig for a friend’s cocktail party before his wedding. Since we (the four band members) didn’t know each other, we were to play for just that one time, we thought of calling ourselves One Night Stand,” laughs Behram. Berham elaborates, “We had problems with the name; the copyright was with an International DJ so we had to change ours. But we didn’t change it on our own. We did a radio contest and picked this one from a suggestion of 1200 names.”

This band from Bangalore which now does over 100 shows a year will be in town for the anniversary of Olive Bistro. What makes music of the band hard to resist is their ability to surprise an audience and keep them engaged till the end of the show. Known for their lively performances, it’s also recognised as one of India’s most successful young bands.

Besides Behram on vocals and bass guitar, the band has Hemanth on guitars, Neville on piano and Abhilash on drums. While Behram is a professional pilot who initially wasn’t sure how long he would do music, the other three are all trained musicians.

“After that one cocktail gig, we were followed by music lovers and Hard Rock Café signed us up. Now besides the incredible chemistry in terms of music, we also share a good bond. Whether it is music, food, offers, we are all on the same page and that makes us a close knit band,” says Behram.

If you ask them to describe themselves, “We’re crowd-hookers. We love the open air. And, electricity. We love you. Not as much as we love music. But, you’re not complaining. We like twisting stuff you’ve heard before and writing songs you haven’t. Hardwired to entertain, surprise is the middle name. We’re an ambitious lot,” they laugh.

On future plans, Behram says, “we want to do more International shows and cut our record albums.”
