>Malapadakkam.com burst onto the Deepavali e-commerce scene in the city a couple of years ago and has since then grown to be quite popular, especially with tech-savvy shoppers. Once again, the venture, started by city-based techies Anand Gopan and S.R. Nithin, which retails firecrackers online, is back in business in time for the festive season.

This year they have two family packages and two children’s packages (for Rs. 600 and Rs. 1,000). “In the Rs. 600 package there will be 18 items and in the Rs. 1,000 package there will be 24 items. While the family package will have a lot of firecrackers that burst with a loud bang such as ‘rockets’ and ‘olappadakkams’, the children’s ones will have sparklers, ‘chakras’, ‘pistols will roll cap’ and other more playful items.

“We also customise bulk orders. All the padakkams are sourced from Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu,” says Sharath S.M. of Epoch Markers event management, who is now running the show. And true to its name, the e-firm will also be retailing malapadakkams (literally, string of padakkams). “Malappadakams are our speciality. We have strings with 100 padakkams and also with 10,000 padakkams!” adds Sharath. Customers need just log onto the website www.malapadakkam.com or the Facebook page Malapadakkam.com and place the order, which works on BounzD, a business calling solution widget developed especially for the purpose by Waybeo Technologies at Technopark. Payment is through cash on delivery.

“Delivery is free and the packages will be delivered before Deepavali (November 2). We can deliver anywhere within the city limits, and also the Kazhakoottam- Technopark area up to the Infosys building,” says Sharath. From this year, the firm is also retailing its wares in Delhi under the name Alubomb.com. The last date for orders is October 28.
