Mention music videos to Papon (Angarag Mahanta) and it’ll take him just a few seconds to fly back in time when their generation fed and lived on them. He gets nostalgic as he mentions heroes and heroines in the music videos and chuckles, “Some of the biggest stars at that time were the hero-heroines of various music videos. Only the West picturised music videos on the artiste at that time. The music channels were a must on TV for us.”

With this season of Coke Studio focussed on music videos, it’s a dream come true for Papon. Choc-a-bloc with interviews for Coke Studio Season 4, Papon says he can’t wait to see the response. “It is such a unique package that it will surely be appreciated by all music lovers,” he gushes.

But music videos aren’t new to this singer from the North east; and he insists they are a great relief for the artiste and the musicians as well. This singer, performer and music director doesn’t restrict himself to TV shows and Bollywood songs; he loves staying connected to his roots. “Regional folk is the new tune and when the tune of one region is introduced to the other, the appreciation gets better,” he explains.

When Papon sang Jiye Kyun in Dum Maro Dum , little did he anticipate what was awaiting him — now his fan base grows by the day. He chuckles and says, “It is a blessing. I just sing and everyone appreciates it.”

Those who follow Hindi cinema music and have yeh moh moh ke dhage from the yet-to-be released Dum laga ke haisa playing in a loop, credit the singer for the soulful song. “I just enjoy good music and when the songs meet the requirement of the scene, its appreciation gets better,” says this music album creator.
