Can you suggest some natural sunscreens and tell me how to use them?— Akshaya

Sesame seed (til) oil and sandalwood are two natural sunscreens, but the SPF is low. For example, the SPF of sesame seed oil is only 6. Also, sunscreens need to be prepared in a particular way to give longer protection to the skin. Sunscreens are easily available and can be easily bought according to one’s skin type. Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or 20. For sensitive skin, use a higher SPF. SPF is also related to duration of exposure. Apply the sunscreen 20 minutes before going out in the sun. If you stay in the sun for long, re-apply the sunscreen.

I have a lot of warts on my eyelids and around the eyes. How do I get rid of them?— Nagraj

Warts are small, hard, uneven, raised growths, with a rough surface. They can appear on the face and different parts of the body. Some warts are caused by a virus and spread easily. A wart should never be picked with the nails. It is best to refer it to a dermatologist, or try homeopathic treatment. As far as home remedies are concerned, it is said that applying vinegar on the warts daily causes them to eventually fall out. Apply it only on the wart, using cotton wool. However, vinegar should be applied with caution on the area near the eyes. It is said that onions also help. Soak sliced onions in water overnight. The following morning, apply the water on your face.

Tell me how to use non-alcoholic red wine for the skin.— Varnica

Wine has some alcohol content, although it may be lower than liquor. Wine is rich in vitamins and minerals and helps delay visible signs of ageing. Wine masks and facials also brighten the skin by removing dead cells and stimulating blood circulation to the surface of the skin. They nourish and moisturise the skin, making it glow. You can prepare wine masks at home. Take honey and yogurt and add a few tablespoons of red wine to it. Apply it on your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off. This softens and moisturises the skin, removing the tan and making your complexion glow. Red wine, by itself, can also be applied and washed off with plain water after 20 minutes. For oily skin, mix red wine and green tea with multani mitti and make it into a paste. Apply it on the face, avoiding the lips and the area around the eyes. Wash it off when it dries. For dry skin, add red wine to aloe vera gel and dried milk powder. Apply it on the face and wash it off after 20 minutes.
