My hair is thin. I apply oil and wash it once a week. But my hair always seems sticky.Lavanya

Wash your hair twice a week. Rinse it well. If you apply oil and do not wash it off, your hair will become sticky — oily hair attracts dirt. You can give your hair a tea water and lemon rinse after a shampoo wash. Boil used tea leaves again in enough water. After boiling, you should have around 5 to 6 cups of tea water. Cool and strain the liquid. Then add the juice of a lemon and use it as a last rinse after a shampoo wash. Applying egg white on your hair 15 minutes before shampooing it will reduce stickiness and add body.

I brush my teeth twice a day but they are yellow.Ishwarya

Teeth can become yellow due to lack of enamel. You should consult a dentist. You can also take a little bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and rub it on the teeth like tooth powder. However, a visit to the dentist is a must.

I have a thick lower lip. Also the colour is pale.Keerthana

The size of the lips can only be reduced surgically for which you will have to consult a cosmetic surgeon. But, you can make the lips seem thinner with make-up. Avoid using glossy or shining lipsticks, as they make the lips look fuller. Matte lipsticks would be better. Dark colours make the lips look thinner. Use a lipstick which is one shade darker on the lower lip. Or, use a dark brown shade on the thicker lip and then apply the colour of your choice on both the lips.

I am losing a lot of hair and have dandruff.Shruti

Dandruff can lead to hair loss. For dandruff, apply a non-oily herbal hair tonic on the scalp daily, using cotton wool and leave it in. Avoid massaging your hair. Part your hair into sections and apply it on your scalp. Wash your hair with a mild herbal shampoo three or four times a week, using less shampoo and taking care to rinse it off well with water. Half an hour before a shampoo wash, apply two tablespoons of vinegar on the scalp, massaging it lightly into the scalp. Once a week, heat olive oil and apply it on the scalp at night. Leave it on overnight. The following morning, apply the juice of a lemon on your scalp 15 minutes before a shampoo wash. Include fresh fruits, salads, sprouts and yoghurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and drink it first thing in the morning.

After my delivery, hormonal changes have caused moles and open pores on my face. Suggest remedies.Dhivya

Are these blackheads or moles, since open pores and blackheads occur on oily skin. For moles, you should consult a dermatologist. For open pores, use a cleanser or face wash for oily skin. After cleansing your skin, apply an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix multani mitti with rose water into a paste and apply it on your face. Wash it off after it dries. This helps reduce oiliness and close the pores. Use a facial scrub two or three times a week. Mix rose water with rice flower and apply it on the oily areas. Rub it gently on the skin with small circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off. Or, mix oats with egg white and apply it on the areas with open pores twice a week. Wash it off after it dries.

My facial skin is loose and this makes me look old. Suggest methods to tighten the skin.Kavitha

If your skin is normal to dry, keep it moisturised. Apply aloe vera gel daily on your face; wash it off with after 20 minutes. Skin serum is available nowadays. Apply it daily after cleansing and nourishing your face. Use a face pack twice a week. Mix together 2 teaspoons of choker (wheat bran) with egg white and one teaspoon each ground almonds, honey and curd. Apply it on your face, avoiding the lips and the area around your eyes. Wash it off after 20 minutes. You can also have weekly salon facials. The professional massage will help.
