Two new legal aid clinics inaugurated

Two additional clinics to provide basic legal services to the people were opened at K.Pudur and at Vellaiammpatti on Saturday and Monday, respectively.

Madurai District Legal Services Authority and Women Consumer Protection Association jointly established the clinic at K.Pudur to offer free legal services to people whose annual income is less than Rs.50,000. The clinic will assist women under the Domestic Violence Act, spread legal awareness, engage lawyers for the needy, file appeals in higher courts, and help clients to get birth and death certificates and to avail themselves of government benefits. The clinic will deal with both legal and non-legal cases.

On Monday, Madurai District Legal Services Authority launched its mobile legal aid service campaign in nine villages – Vellaiammpatti, Oomatchikulam, Veerapandi, Pannaikudi, Achampatti, Alanganallur, Kallivelipatti, Melachinnampatti, Kondayampatti. At the end of the day, a legal aid clinic was opened at Vellaiammpatti near Vadipatti.

The clinic at K. Pudur functioning at No.81, Alagar Nagar 5th Street will work between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Fridays. People who are in need of free legal service can contact 9443056261. The clinic at Vellaiammpatti will function on Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. And the contact no is 9366701849.

The clinics were inaugurated by Jecintha Martin, Sub Judge and secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Madurai.
