Our lifestyles are increasingly becoming sedentary. With the rise in technology, a whole gamut of jobs opportunities have opened up that require us to sit in front of computers all day. These jobs have augmented incomes in many families, only to deprave millions of people of the benefits of exercise. This has given rise to a new industry focussed solely on health and fitness. From fitness clubs and gymnasiums to gadgets that tell you whether you are fit or how much you need to exercise or how much you have exercised — it is all there.

The progress in technology has given rise to wearable devices that seek to make lives easier for people. One such technology is fitness bands. Fitness bands are now dime a dozen, and all of them have the same features — they track heart beat, the steps you have taken, and the like. Most of these trackers have accompanying apps sitting comfortably in your smart phone. But, what if you like the app of one tracker, but want to use a different tracker? This is the problem that the makers of Angel Sensor are addressing.

Angel Sensor is unique in that it is open. So, what does this mean? This essentially means that anyone who has a little knowledge of developing can make an app for it. This makes Angel Sensor a fitness tracker for developers.

Now, it would be easy to think that this would lead to a whole bunch of apps that did pretty much the same thing. But, this could not be further from the truth. The Angel Sensor can provide data for an app that is created to sense heart attacks or for a traditional app created for tracking various workout sessions. This tracker presents opportunities that are endless.

The tracker itself can track a number of things, including your blood oxygen level, heart rate, skin temperature, in addition to a whole lot of physical activity attributes like steps taken, calories burned, and the like. When you look at it, these things are not different from what most fitness trackers measure. What makes it special is what people could do with the data.

The Angel Sensor is capable of supporting Bluetooth 4.0, the power saving version of Bluetooth. It can work well with both Android and iOS devices, thus making itself versatile for developers.

If you are not a developer but want to use the Angel Sensor, you have nothing to worry about. The band comes with some ‘foundation apps’ that will help you get started. There are a number of apps in the app store that work well with the Angel Sensor. If you are a developer, this band is definitely something you should look at. It presents you with endless opportunities and could also help save lives.
