Sapna Koshy has made a career out of her creative streak as she customises gifts for all occasions

When Sapna Koshy, quit her corporate job to look after her new born daughter, she hardly expected the break would become a gateway to a new profession! In between babysitting, Sapna used her free time to do what she loved; making handmade gifts. She made little mugs and photo frames, and gifted them to her friends and family. The positive feedbacks gave her a high. Soon, the hobby became a profession. In June last year, she launched her home-based brand called Golden Wraps and started taking orders for customised gifting. Now, she has her hands full with orders from all over the world!

Be it traditional weddings, birthday bashes or baby showers, Sapna arranges personalised gifts for any occasion. “The clients just need to tell me what they want to gift. I hit the shops to procure it. I will send them a sample picture on internet. If they have any suggestion, I incorporate it,” she says. The trend of gifting hampers is catching up in the city, she says. “Gift hampers, with four or five items, look more bountiful than single gift pieces. Out of the five items, at least one is sure to make a person happy!” Diapers shaped like cakes, spa hampers with body lotions, scented candles and towels, and home decor packs with bed sheets and pillow cases... there are hampers to suit any occasion, says Sapna. “I had a client, who wanted to gift her dad a spa hamper for Father’s day! It had lotions and creams of his favourite brand!”

Recently, she has begun to take up gift wrapping orders. “I did this out of customers’ requests. Many of my clients were not satisfied with the gift wrapping done in shops.” Sapna’s gift boxes are as popular as her gifts! “My clients end up using most of my gift cases as jewel boxes. Usually, it is nothing more than a shoe box or a card board carton. I wind a satin ribbon around it or attach a flowery brooch and give it a makeover. All you need is a little creativity to present your gifts stylishly,” she points out.

Sapna is also active on Facebook, where she regularly posts pictures of her products, which has got her many clients. Her new found hobby is chocolate making. Her orange and strawberry flavoured chocolates have a lot of takers. “I also conduct chocolate making classes. It is a herculean task to do so many things and manage a home, but I enjoy the adrenaline rush,” smiles Sapna. You can check out Sapna’s gift hampers and edible treats at her stall in the Kovai Shopping Mela, scheduled on August 30 and 31.
