Ruslaan Mumtaz, who debuted in Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar and has done films mostly of romantic genre, is obsessed with his physique.

This Salman Khan fan has got a commendable physique which is a matter of curiosity and awe for his fans.

“Addicted to work out,” says Ruslaan with seriousness of intent when asked about his fitness routine. He is not only punctual when it comes to his workout in gym but also plays sports to have a fit and lean body.

Sharing his fitness secrets, the 33-year-old actor, who has just made his television debut with Balika Vadhu , says: “Fitness for me is mobility or an ability to do my work without feeling easily exhausted. I have often witnessed people complaining about climbing stairs or walking down a few miles. So, for me being fit is being able to walk or run unhesitatingly without the need of car or any other vehicle. Since I have always been into sports and fitness my body responds to the degree of workout I do; I can gain or lose weight as per my need.”

Explaining the kind of diet he takes on a daily basis, Ruslaan says, “An intake of protein rich diet works for me. Like I eat more eggs, chicken and fish and avoid junk and fried food which I am fond of. Lately, I have abstained myself from protein shakes and have been more into natural protein sources.”

Having a well tone body means leaving out good food. “I have to curb my desire for eatables. I am a foodie and a voracious eater. Although I do not follow a strictly healthy diet, I avoid some of my favourite food items like pizza. I am a pizza lover and I used to have it twice or thrice a week but now when I have to maintain a slim body I avoid having pizza. Unlike earlier, now I have pizza twice or thrice a year. Whenever I eat something unhealthy I try to work out more rigorously to cover that up.”

On the hurdles he faces when he is not able to follow his daily routine, the actor says: “I face trouble if I miss going out to the gym for a day or two. It really makes me look lean and thin. So it becomes necessary to work out daily.

Noting that Salman Khan has set the standards too high, the actor says, “Even at the age of 50, Salman is invincible and it is an uphill task to compete with him. He has maintained that body for 20 years and I wish to be at least 50 per cent of what he is. At present it is very difficult to compete him who introduced fitness and body building in the industry.”

On whether sports can be a substitute to workout at gym, Ruslaan says, “For a layman it is great thing to play any kind of sports but the kind of body actors require these days it is impossible to acquire it only by playing sports. For an actor sports cannot be a substitute for gym exercises. However it can be an additional element of work out along with other exercises. I have grown up playing sports and I play badminton twice a week which is fun as well as a break from gym and weights.”
