Aditi Bose’s My Dream Man has Ajopa Ganguly, a struggling writer, develop a poignant relationship with Aniket Verma, a professor of Economics – 12 years older than her. Written primarily in the voice of Ajopa, the novel makes for an easy read. This is Aditi’s second book, she has written an e-book for children. My Dream Man is her first in the romance genre. “I was going through a difficult phase in my life when I had lost my father. I was into content writing and started writing this book like how I would write a journal.”
The first chapter is so candidly written that you wonder if Aditi is Ajopa, a Bengali girl, born and raised in Delhi . “She is not me,” Aditi clarifies, though she agrees that she is a “bit of her, a bit of some of her close friends, and some experiences she has heard.” Readers, she says, have liked how Ajopa grows up from being a giggly girl to a demure woman. Aniket though, says Aditi, is inspired by her Economics professor. As for writing the novel, Aditi says it just “fell into place.” Though the novel delves deep into the lives of the characters, it is also peppered with humour, something that seems to have come naturally to Aditi.
Among the most challenging aspects of writing, Aditi says, is crafting the plot. “Stories just flow,” she says. “I love to cook up stories,” she laughs. Writing a love story came easily to her. “I always loved romance, from Mills and Boon to Danielle Steele,” concludes Aditi, who completed her MBA from International Management Institute, and is an alumna of Loreto House, St. Xavier’s College.
