Pop singer Smita’s latest music video, ‘Baha Kilikki’, is in Kiliki, a fictional language spoken by the Kalakeya tribe in S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali. The song is peppy, zingy, groovy and, most importantly, the lyrics are untranslatable!
Smita calls ‘Baha Kilikki’ a tribute to the cast and crew of Rajamouli’s Baahubali. “The making of this music video has been a phenomenal experience for me. When I watched Baahubali on the big screen, I had this strong feeling that if at all any movie deserves a tribute, it has to be Baahubali,” she said at the release of the video.
“I have been thinking of working on a music video in gibberish for a long time. The Kiliki lingo used by Prabhakar sir in Baahubali caught my fancy. I immediately called Madhan Karky, who created this language, introduced in the film by Rajamouli sir, seeking his help with the lyrics, and all he took was two days’ time,” she informs.
Karky, on his part, was also thrilled, because his suggestion that a song in the Kiliki language be included in Baahubali had to be turned down, citing time constraints. This racy number features Smita along with Kalakeya Prabhakar himself and rapper Noel Sean. While the song has been composed by Achu, Bollywood’s ace choreographer Bosco has choreographed the song.
Interestingly, Karky has also invented the grammar and a whole set of alphabets for the new Kiliki language, which has caught the fancy of the common man.
