After the runaway success of their songs on Mother’s Day, sisters Charumathy and Bairavi have put together another music video to coincide with Onam.

Charumathy Shankar Iyer, Bairavi Gopi, and another sister Ranjani Mahesh who plays the veena, who make up the band Voice Virus feature in this Malayalam music video titled ‘Swara Sadhya’. The video is rocking on YouTube.

As the title suggests it proves to be a musical feast that captures the spirit of the festival. Voice Virus has latched on to the theme of togetherness and fun, with a dash of nostalgia.

Right through the song the colours of the season prevail. The bright pookkalams, the delicious sadhya and the elaborate preparations, pulikali, plenty of flowers, the excitement of getting the Onakodi or new clothes, family members coming together all run through in fascinating images.

Also incorporated, perhaps to give the true Kerala-feel, are children on the swing, gathering flowers for the pookkalam, the sadhya and some of the traditional art forms such as Thiruvathirakali, Mohiniyattam, Pulikali etc.

Shot in lush green locales of Kozhikode and Wayanad, the video moves through a girl child, played by Anaja Sai, her mother and grandmother.

Charumathy, a playback and classical singer, who made her film debut for A.R. Reihana (A.R. Rahman’s sister) with the song ‘Vazhvu sirakka…’ in the Tamil film Pesuvathu Kiliya , has also sung in other Kannada and Tamil films. Bairavi Gopi, an RJ, has sung for devotional albums and jingles

Voice Virus was born when the sisters decided to create an audience for themselves and uploaded their song for Valentine’s Day.

‘Swara Sadhya’ has been penned by Shiji, a Kannur-based poet. Charumathy is the music director and the orchestration is by Gopi. The mixing and mastering has been done at AM Studios, Chennai, by engineers Krishnan Subramanian and Karthik, who have worked on films such as Mariyaan and Kochadaiyaan . They have used live instruments with some lilting veena (Ranjani Mahesh) and flute (Sandeep) pieces.

Voice Virus has performed ‘live’ on a couple of occasions in Bangalore and Coimbatore. They have plans to focus on Carnatic fusion and go full steam soon.
