Last year, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi called for making the police force of the country a 'SMART' police force. The second edition of International Police Expo was inaugurated by Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sarbananda Sonowal recently.. The two day expo with its theme, 'SMART' Policing, had exhibitors from across the globe. Officers and former officials of the CRPF, Delhi Police and CISF among others attended and praised the expo. “The Prime Minister called for a police force which is strict and sensitive, modern and mobile, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, techno-savvy and trained. Though police today may have some shortcomings, but there are ways of dealing with them. One negative news about the police runs for a long time, but good news about them is not given much attention,” said Sonowal during the inauguration.

The expo showcased latest machines and equipment that have been or are being developed by different companies for the police and security purposes. Cameras, metal detectors, guns, drones, helmets and other equipments developed all across the globe were presented. “The bullets of these guns are made of red pepper. The idea is to use these compressed air guns at the time when the police have to charge on crowds. Water canons and lathi-charge are injurious, unlike these guns. They cause skin or eye irritation giving the cops time to make arrests and disperse the crowd,” said an official of Pepperball Technology, explaining one of the company's inventions. There were more than 50 participants at the expo, showcasing different product lines.

Apart from this, a stall showcasing the tech-savvy Delhi Police was also set up at the event. The officials at the stall explained to the visitors the applications and online FIR facility for car theft, to be made available for the Delhiites soon. “ We have launched several applications and are planning to launch more for the residents of Delhi.” said sub-inspector Nitin Kumar. A magazine named 'Cops Today International' was also launched at the event.
