Cultural activities renew in July with a vigour after a lull of two months. Rang, a 10 day-long festival is one of them. A wholesome affair comprising varied elements like Manchnaad, the theatre festival, Kalamkaari, the literature festival and Cinesthesia, the film festival. Then there is Shutters Creed, a photography festival, and Parampara which is a folk festival. Brought by The Films and Theatre Society (FTS), Rang begins July 19. This year there has been an addition of events like professional theatre competition, honorary screening of movies, kavi sammelan, puppetry and musical performances by folk artistes. The festival provides a platform to not just different art forms but also young artistes.
Among the theatrical highlights are “Draupadi” by writer-director Atul Satya Koushik, “Animal Farm”, “Bade Shehar ke Log” and “Arjun ka Beta”.
The play is based on the story of Draupadi with some imaginative sequences that contemporarise her character and locates it in today’s society forging connection between her and today’s women. Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s Ekjute is also presenting two plays “Begum Jaan” and “Ye Mumbai Hai Meri Jaan” in the festival. The photography festival, Shutters Creed will be held at SRC, LTG, Alliance Francaise; Kalamkari from July 23-25th at Alliance Francaise and Hindi Bhawan; Cinesthesia at Alliance Francaise, Lodhi Road whereas handicrafts/folk arts will be on display all through the festival at SRC and LTG. According to the Director and President of FTS, Atul Koushik, the festival seeks to reach out to a large number of audiences this year by bringing in more art forms in the festival.
“When Atul Koushiq invited me to Rang and wanted I Am to be screened, I thought it would be a good platform to bring I Am to Delhi audience once again. It’s always fun to interact with the youngsters,” expressed Onir, film director.
The entry to the events is open to all on first-come-first-serve basis except theatre entry to which will be charged at nominal rates.
