Gems and Jewellery India International Exhibition, a B2B show, opens on February 26

“Gold is an integral part of Indian society and we're the largest consumers in the world. But the industry is still losing to others like electronics. Why? Because, they have variety,” exclaims Yogesh Challani, Chairman, Gems and Jewellery India International Exhibition, while addressing the media in the run-up to the seventh edition of the show.

Organised in association with United Business Media India and Madras Jewellers and Diamond Merchants Association, the business-to-business show will see the participation of around 200 dealers from seven countries — Belgium, Thailand, Dubai, Italy, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Japan. On display will be the latest collections of jewellery.

“This is the first time a Japanese pearl manufacturing company is coming down,” says Yogesh.

This year, the focus will be on light-weight jewellery. Delicate designs in gold, diamond, silver and platinum will be on display.

There will also be a section that showcases weighing scales, hand tools, cutting and polishing equipment, etc. to throw light on the latest trends in jewellery design.

“Chennai is no more a traditional market,” says Sanjeev Khaira, Managing Director, UBM, adding, “Platinum and diamonds have a growing market here. The market looks promising in this city and we're expecting a huge crowd.”
