A CELEBRATION Of communities that fall outside the heterosexual norm

The seventh edition of the Bangalore Queer Film Festival (BQFF) will be held from February 27 till March 1. BQFF has brought together films on themes related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and other communities that fall outside the heterosexual norm.

This year BQFF will feature over 55 films from 22 countries,

The opening night featuers, Cheryl Dunye’s Mommy is Coming . The Centre Piece features two films – Robin Campillo’s Eastern Boys , and Cagla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti’s Noor , a story of a heart-broken khusra who wants to now be a man again and find love again. The closing night showcases Joaquim Pinto’s E-Agora? Lembra-Me (What Now? Remind Me) .

The filmmaker, who has been living with HIV for more than 20 years, looks back on his life in cinema, his friends and lovers, and at art and nature, all while undergoing experimental drug treatment. Violette , a period film, will also be screened. The film fictionalises the relationship that grew between Violette Leduc and Simone de Beauvoir in the years after the war in Saint-Germain-des-Pres.

And a first full-length Indian experimental film, will premier at BQFF – Moloy Mukherjee’s Amar Bhavna Kintu Dur Holona (Messy Forever).

The Alliance Française de Bangalore will be showcasing eight films as part of BQFF.

There are also curated sets of films sent by the Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan: The Berlinale short film package and the Dresden short film package.

BQFF will also feature queer performances and a photo exhibition. The performances will be held on Saturday and Sunday evening February 28 and March 1 at the Alliance Française de Bangalore, and include music and dance.

There will also be a curated exhibition of illustrations by Nilofer, a selection of printed and video works by performance artist Tsohil Bhatia, a collaborative photo work by photographer Shilpa Raj and model Striana that explores the melancholia and schism of gender among other works.

Day 1 of BQFF will be held at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, and day 2 and 3 at Alliance Francaise. The festival will be held from 9 am to 10 pm.
