Opel is planning to debut the station wagon version of the Astra at the Paris Motor Show later this year, taking most of the design cues from the smaller Insignia.
However, the engine line-up is the same as in the sedan.
The station wagon is some 20 centimetres longer than the predecessor model, measuring 4.6 metres. A choice of five petrol engines in the range between 87 and 180 hp and four common-rail diesel versions with an output of between 95 and 160 hp will be available.
The load capacity of between 540 and 1,590 litres is about the same as with the current Opel Astra Caravan. Fuel-saving start-stop technology will be available for all the models, according to the car maker. Adaptive dampers, lane-assist and bi-xenon headlights are available as extras.
