Let’s, with the signature Suzuki design, is set to get the 110cc segment zooming

The 110cc segment has proved to be a hot bed for two-wheeler manufacturers in the Indian market, with many entering this space with new launches and updates from time to time. It was a different story with Suzuki though. It entered India as a sole subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, back in 2004 and initially targeted the 125cc scooter segment with the Access. The company is now set to compete in the 110cc category with a new scooter called Let’s, first showcased to the media and then seen at the Auto Expo 2014.

The Let’s is a smart looking scooter with sharp and aerodynamic body lines, with noticeable Suzuki design traits. The scooter enjoys mid-size proportions that are comfortable, but feels perceptibly smaller as soon as you get astride. It gets deeply cut silhouettes finished in black on the front apron under the indicators that flow down in a straight line, giving the scooter a fresh look. The scooter gets a clear lens, halogen-equipped headlamp that provides good visibility at night, and looks similar to the one seen on the Access, only smaller. Analogue gauges are well laid out with an easily legible speedometer, odometer and an offset fuel gauge set around other standard icons. Switchgear quality is good, and the switches work with a crisp feel. Mirrors are neatly set to provide good visibility of what’s behind you, while the good quality levers on offer also get a brake lock clamp on the left, a much needed safety feature in an automatic scooter. Palm grips feel adequate to touch. The ignition key unit is a one-stop spot from where the scooter seat bay can be opened as well. The scooter also gets a locking system that cuts off key entry via a shutter, restricting access when required. The solitary bag hook is placed in the centre just under the handle, making for an easy access to mount baggage.

Suzuki has given the front storage space a miss, which is quite unfortunate. The under seat storage bay isn’t too big, just enough to fit a small full face helmet. The rear looks distinct, thanks to the sleek design cues and a stylish grab rail. The neatly integrated tail-light with side indicators looks fancy and is further complemented by the slim exhaust system. Overall quality and fit-finish offered by Suzuki is good. The rubber and plastic components on the Let’s impart a quality, built-to-last feel.

The company's new scooter offering is powered by a 112.8cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder and forced air-cooled SOHC power plant that adopts the 'Suzuki Eco Performance' system. We’d expect the mileage to be in the region of 44 - 47kpl. Peak power of 8.7bhp at 7500rpm, with maximum torque of 0.91kgm at 6500rpm is transferred to the rear wheel via a CVT-type transmission that works well to offer convenience in riding through congested traffic conditions. It feels peppy enough for a scooter and offers smooth power delivery. Throttle response is good, and Suzuki has tuned this scooter rather well for city commuting, with ample low and mid-range performance. The engine feels like a true Suzuki, doing well to impart a refined and reliable feel as expected from this manufacturer. The Let’s can comfortably cruise at 70kph, with a true top speed in the region of 85kph. Both electric and a kick starter are on offer here, as is essential in all scooters.

The lightweight scooter weighs in at 98kg, with several body panels being fibre constructed. It is a comfortable scooter with a well padded seat for both rider and pillion. Scooter-typical ergonomics are on offer here, making for an upright riding position. The handlebar, however, fouls with the rider’s knees while turning. The flat and well textured floorboard is large enough to accommodate large feet. It feels light to manoeuvre and neutral to steer. Handling is as good as any other scooter on Indian roads. The telescopic front forks along with the monoshock rear suspension provide good ride quality, neither feeling overly plush nor too stiff while soaking up undulations over poor road surfaces. The Let's runs on steel wheels comprising 90/100 x 10 inch Eurogrip tubeless tyres, that feel nice and grippy around corners. The 120mm drum brakes on both ends work well to bring this scooter to a halt, with a progressive feel at the brake levers.

After the Access 125 made it big as the first 125cc scooter offering from Suzuki, the Let’s does have a lot to live up to, being the first 110cc offering from this manufacturer.

It is a package of sound engineering, a reliable engine, good ride and handling. Judging by our first ride, the competitively priced Let’s comes across as a scooter with a lot of potential, sure to win several hearts with its fresh new styling, and is on sale now at Rs 45,172 (ex-showroom, Pune).
