The Hayabusa is speed in all its glory. But speed is not all it is. These, words, often cited for the over-a-decade-old Japanese peregrine falcon, I believed, said pretty much everything about the superbike. Not quite so. Clearly, the Suzuki Motor Corporation has been aiming for more. And after concerted efforts, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) recently announced the limited edition of the Hayabusa Z. The bike, like the previous Hayabusas, lets you fly. It puts in the thrust and caresses the road swiftly. The speed doesn’t make you wobble. It rather encourages you to test your adrenaline. In fact, the big machine comes in with a maximum power output of 197 bhp at 10, 200 rpm providing it the strength and toughness along with speed. So blink at your own risk — you might miss it flying by. But that is true also for the sales. The limited edition superbike would be available latest up till March 31.
Customers will receive special gifts on purchase of the motorcycle, like a scale model (1:48) of the legendary Yoshimura Hayabusa X1 and a racing calendar. All this priced at Rs.16.20 lakh ex- showroom in Delhi. That is a neat Rs.25,000 more than the regular Hayabusa.
The Hayabusa Z is equipped with a Yoshimura R-77J Carbon End Exhaust system which suggests a focus on designing, detailing and performance. Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), said of the Limited Edition, “The Yoshimura Slip On R-77J Carbon End Exhaust addition to the legendary Hayabusa is a modification that has been on the wish list of Indian biking aficionados for a long time.”
The trapezoidal design bike is powered by the same four-stroke, 1,3400cc, in-line, four-cylinder engine with a peak torque of 15.7kgm at 6,200rpm. The piston diameters are enlarged from 32-30mm to 32-32mm and the new Antilock Brake System (ABS) unit features a lightweight, compact design.
Hayabusa Z is offered in two colour schemes — Blue and Silver, and White and Silver. A Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) system for selecting any of the three engine control maps; and Forged three-ring aluminum-alloy slipper pistons to provide superior strength and a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) system are some other features.
But with all these enhanced features and new styling, speed remains Hayabusa’s glory.
